On the momentous occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day, the Legal Aid and Awareness Committee embarked on a noble endeavour to enrich the lives of the villagers in Surpura by establishing the Surpura Community Library. This initiative aimed to cultivate a culture of literacy, provide access to quality reading material, and empower individuals of all ages, especially students and young adults.
The journey of the Surpura Community Library began with collaborative efforts to secure funding and procure essential resources, including books and furniture. The Committee meticulously curated a diverse collection of books, with a special emphasis on children’s literature, competitive exam materials, and vernacular literature. Furthermore, the appointment of a dedicated local librarian ensured the smooth functioning and accessibility of the library’s resources.
Since its inception, the Surpura Community Library has had a profound impact on the villagers, particularly students, young adults, and women. Children find a haven for study and exploration within the library’s walls, supported by free Wi-Fi connectivity. The library offers a diverse array of resources, from course materials to competitive exam preparation books, catering to the academic needs of the community.
The library catalyses individual growth and aspiration. One notable instance is a student preparing for civil service examinations, whose dedication and access to resources at the library contributed significantly to his success. Additionally, middle-aged women in Surpura have found renewed interest in learning and self-improvement through their visits to the library.
