Shilpjeevika

In alignment with the government’s focus on women’s empowerment and participation, the Legal Aid and Awareness Committee has launched Project Shilpjeevika. This transformative initiative aims to empower women in the rural community of Surpura by providing them with vocational skills, financial literacy, and avenues for economic independence.

Central to Project Shilpjeevika is the establishment of a Skill Development Center for Women, inaugurated on March 6th, 2024. This centre serves as a hub for equipping women with vocational skills and fostering entrepreneurship. Through collaborative product development and hands-on training sessions, women are empowered to transform their skills into sustainable sources of income.

The inauguration ceremony of the Skill Development Center was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Prof (Dr) Harpreet Kaur, Vice Chancellor, National Law University, Jodhpur, and Mr Harphool Pankaj, RAS, Registrar, National Law University, Jodhpur, among others. Their presence underscored the significance of this initiative in promoting empowerment and resilience within the community.

A highlight of the inauguration was a hands-on training session on soap making, facilitated by Ms Sangeeta Tripathi, CTO, Arid Forest Research Institute, Jodhpur. This session offered women in Surpura a valuable opportunity to enhance their skills and explore new avenues for economic empowerment.

Project Shilpjeevika is poised to expand its outreach through collaborations with institutions such as the Institute of Hotel Management in Jodhpur (IHM) for training in baking and with the Arid Forest Research Institute for soap-making workshops. These initiatives aim to further empower women and foster sustainable livelihoods in the Surpura community.
