Conducted on 5 October 2024, the inaugural Stakeholder Summit examined transgender rights in the context of a decade since the landmark judgment in National Legal Services Authority v. Union of India.
The Summit featured a workshop engaging paralegal volunteers, police personnel, and stakeholders, followed by a panel discussion with leading experts, activists, and academicians. Discussions highlighted the gap between legal recognition and lived realities, particularly barriers in accessing education, employment, and healthcare.
Key insights emphasised the importance of self-determination, intersectional policymaking, and community-led solutions, while also critically examining implementation challenges under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019. The Summit reinforced that legal reform must be complemented by societal and institutional change to ensure meaningful inclusion and equality.
